A metaphor for economy, for obsolescence, for waste, is here, somewhere, among a collection of unfired earthenware pipes. These extrusions are unemployed, out of work, not functioning as they should or could, rather sitting as inanimate objects in the space between past and future. Their only employment is through my own work as an artist, extruding, installing, reconfiguring, deinstalling, and relocating them as objects but not as “functional” units.
